Project Management Plan Overview

The project management plan guides the project's execution, monitoring and control, and closure. In essence, the plan is the project's road map. As a result, the plan must capture the key information and considerations required to ensure that the project outcomes and stakeholder expectations will be met. A project management plan can provide a basic summary or greater detail, depending on the complexity of the project and the requirements of the organization sponsoring the project. In complex projects, the project management plan will encompass the following subsidiary plans:

  • scope management
  • cost management
  • quality management
  • human resource management
  • procurement management

When drafting the project management plan, it is important to keep the project’s scope in mind, as all other aspects of the project are affected by scope.
