Data Warehouse

A data warehouse is a centralized repository that collects information from several different sources and stores it in a central location (Tantawi, 2013). The data is stored as a read-only snapshot or static record so it cannot be overwritten or changed. The information is updated over time as additional snapshots of the same record are added. Therefore, a data warehouse contains both current and historical data in one location.

Data warehouses are used to facilitate access and analysis for decision support within the field of business intelligence. They are also used in fields such as scientific research, epidemiology, and criminal and demographic statistics.
